We support Peter Browning for re-election to the Skagit County Board of Commissioners.
Commissioner Browning has demonstrated strong leadership on Skagit Valley environmental safety matters of great concern to us, notably in securing a flood protection agreement from Seattle City Light. As this article notes, Browning’s opponent Richard Brocksmith was, “the only elected official in the county who refused to sign a joint letter of countywide office holders asking that the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) hold City Light to more flood storage behind the dams.”
Brocksmith’s refusal to join that important joint flood control letter made him unacceptable to us as a Skagit County Commissioner. Here’s a good article by veteran journalist Dick Clever discussing the candidates relative to Skagit River issues.
